One the principle advantages of the die casting process is that die casting greatly reduces – if not altogether eliminates – the high cost of machining. Plus, die casting produces castings that are extremely accurate and uniform. And, because the process is a continuous one, die casting can produce a larger quantity of parts more quickly than through other casting processes, such as sand casting.

When die cast parts are removed  the mold, they are practically finished parts. In most cases, only a minimum of finishing is required, such as trimming or the removal of fins or shavings from part surfaces.

Die Casting vs Sand Casting

Compared to Sand Casting, Die Casting can produce parts with thinner walls. Die Casting parts also have closer dimensional limits with smoother surfaces. The Die Casting process is also faster than Sand Casting, which lower the cost of labor and speeds time to market.

Die Casting vs Plastic Molding

Die Casting parts have a greater resistance to temperature extremes and better electrical properties than parts created by Plastic Molding. Die Casting parts also have closer tolerances, and are more durable and stable.

Die Casting vs Forging

Compared to Forging, Die Casting can produce more complex shapes with closer tolerances. Die Cast products can also have thinner walls than forged parts. Cast coring holes are not available with forging. And Die Cast products have a lower finishing costs.


Die Casting vs Stamping

Die Castings can be produced in more complex shapes with variations possible in section thickness. The assembly time is also shorter than with Stamping, due to the fact that a single Die Casting can replace many parts. There is also less scrap waste with Die Casting, which makes it more cost effective.

Die Casting vs Permanent Molding

Die Castings can be produced at a faster rate and with less labor than Permanent Molds. Die Cast parts also have smoother surfaces and are less expensive per die casting in overall labor costs. Die Casting can also be made with closer dimensional limits and with varying section thickness.

Die Castings vs Screw Machining

Die Castings can be produced more rapidly than Screw Machine parts, and are available in a wide variety of shapes – many of which would be difficult or impossible to produce from bar or tubular stock. The Die Casting process also maintains tighter tolerances, which requires fewer operations. Because fewer operations are needed with Die Casting, there is less waste and scrap.
