During the design process, early collaboration between the die-caster and customer is crucial. Skipping this step can cause delays in the product launch stage and create headaches with possible recalls from the field, which can be very costly. Northwest Die Casting takes it a step further by also getting our world-class toolmakers involved.
Tools we utilize in the design stage include:
- Mold flow simulation
- Thermal analysis
- 3D Printed Prototyping
- Design Software
At Northwest Die Casting, we utilize AIAG guidelines when it comes to safe launch and on-going production.
Some of the tools and processes we utilize include the following.
- Control Plan
- FMEA – Failure Mode and Effect Analysis
- APQP – Advance product quality planning
- COPQ & PPM Monitoring
- Safe Launch (GP-12)
- Measure Systems Analysis
- Design for Manufacturing – Process Flow Analysis
Northwest Die Casting knows that tooling is a significant investment. With tools such as mold flow simulation, we can ensure that both the part and tool design are validated. Extended tool life can be achieved by utilizing different protective proprietary coatings on the steel. Northwest Die Casting has visibility and traceability on customer-owned tooling. Records include tool life, scheduled and preventative maintenance work, repairs, and modifications.
It is critical to have great tools to make great die-castings!
It is critical to complete projects on-time and on budget. Northwest Die Casting will assign a dedicated hands-on project manager for every job.
